"Thank you for helping me find my family & friends again so many years after I lost them. I get the chance to remember them all this time later." Highlights of just a few of the many successes of sharing memories within the AncientFaces Community. From reuniting Lost & Found or 'orphan' photos with their families, seeing faces of relatives for the first time, to the many connections made with family & friends, and the profound discoveries about our loved ones and ancestors. We Still Celebrate our Independence Day like we did in 1777
These photos show how we celebrated the 4th of July over the years. Take a look and it's likely you’ll find some good inspiration for when you're making preparations for next year. Relatively little has changed since the first 4th of July celebration in 1777: Fireworks, parades and "drunken revelry"! There are the parades in cities from Nome Alaska to New York City, neighborhood block parties, barbecues, family picnics, and baseball games . . . as well as, of course, fireworks - although it was mostly gunfire in the 18th century! Even the warnings about firecrackers haven't changed much as the 1910 Puck magazine photo demonstrates below which your pets and pet owners will appreciate.

The San Francisco Earthquake - April 18, 1906
Fire or quake? Quake or fire? Over a century later, the debate still rages about whether the San Francisco earthquake caused more damage or whether it was the ensuing fires. No matter which was responsible for the greater devastation, the truth is that the great San Francisco California earthquake was the deadliest earthquake in U.S. history. The earthquake was also the first natural disaster of its magnitude to be documented by photography and motion picture footage which you can view for yourself below.

Lest We Forget - The Children of the Holocaust
The Holocaust led by Adolf Hitler during World War 2 claimed the lives of millions. The Holocaust photo collection contains the images of approximately 3,000 children whose lives were taken from them. Many of these images are shared by community member Alyssa McIntosh who works tirelessly to make sure that we never forget the young victims. See just some of these young faces of those who lost their lives below...it's heartbreaking. We'll never know what talent was lost, what they would have become, and what they would have added to our lives.
