By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1816, he was 35 years old when on December 11th, Indiana was admitted as the 19th state in the Union. The name "Indiana" means “land of the Indians”.

It was the first institution for the higher education of black people in the United States. Founded by Quaker Richard Humphreys who gave $10,000 to establish the school, it still exists today - although the location has moved and it has been renamed Cheyney University. Humphreys was concerned about the struggles of free African Americans to make a living.

In 1842, in the year of Benoni Stark Stark's passing, in January, William E. Clarke - a medical student at Berkshire Medical College - became the first person to use an inhaled anesthetic. He administered the anesthetic to pull a tooth.
