The only time I flew out of the USA was with 11 people from Tahoe who went to Baggio City in the Philippines. We went to visit the healer Marcellino. It was an interesting experience based upon faith. It invigorated me & I went wading in the South China Sea! I hadn't been in water since days at Tahoe. They buried me in sand up to my neck. We visited wood carving & weaving factories, cultural dance shows, and many people.

My sister Verna brought Mama up to Lake Tahoe to visit the year after my father died. Mama & I always had a good time together. One time, I took Mama to Woodrow Jang's store in Marysville & found 3 nice dresses for Mama. Verna couldn't get her to buy any. I bought my outfit at Joanne's in Walnut Creek. I liked the clothes she carried.

At Uncle Charlie's Holtz Ranch. I use to stay with Aunt Alma part of every summer. Ceta & Verna rarely went. I played with cousin Sheldon & the ranch hand's kids. At Aunt Cora's, I use to play with the Japanese kids of the orchird workers. They didn't speak English & they grew up & bought the ranches in Auburn. Sheldon & I use to go dances in their Model T Ford at Rock Creek.

I boarded with Rosine Ortiz & her parents in Oakland after I moved from SF for about a year. We both worked at Sears & her boyfriend drove us to/from work every day. She worked the switchboard for 40 years! We took these photos at the beach in Santa Cruz.

This was taken with Mama in the front yard. The next year, short hair became the craze. It was fun at school everyday to see who had cut their hair. Papa didn't want us to but I got my hair cut in Marysville & then Verna & Ceta did. I still have the swatch of this hair!

When I was five years old, my sister La Verna Lewis Holmes was born (Jan 28, 1914). I don't remember this photo being taken. I spent my time with my friend Ernestine Self. They moved from North Carolina. I went over to Mrs Self & asked if her little girl could play. She was my first friend.
