Oliver Lacy Crump
Was the son of Siemon Pinkney Crump aka "Uncle Jack" and Caroline "Carrie" Dor Eakin born in Louisiana 3/31/1902 and died 12/30/1963 in Tylor, Texas. Burried in Sholar cemetery next to his wife, which is located on the Shelby and Panola County line. Married Elizebeth Scott 3/3/1923 and she preceded him in death 3/2/1933. They had four sons, Oliver Perry, Jimmy Ray, Samuel Pinkney and Harold Olsen Crump. Shown in the picture with him from L to R is Carrie Crump Massey his sister and James Valras Massey Sr. his brother in law. Photo taken in Houston, Texas on West 25th. street.

In 1905, in the year that Carrie M Massey was born, the German born physicist, Albert Einstein, proposed the Special Theory of Relativity: 1) that observers can never detect uniform motion except relative to other objects and that 2) unlike the velocity of massive objects, the speed of light is a constant and is the same for all observers independent of their constant velocity toward or away from the light source. Not such simple concepts that lead to the equation everyone now knows: E = mc2.

In 1924, J. Edgar Hoover, at the age of 29, was appointed the sixth director of the Bureau of Investigation by Calvin Coolidge (which later became the Federal Bureau of Investigation). The Bureau had approximately 650 employees, including 441 Special Agents. A former employee of the Justice Department, Hoover accepted his new position on the proviso that the bureau was to be completely divorced from politics and that the director report only to the attorney general.

In 1955, on September 30th, movie star James Dean, 24, died in a car accident. He was headed in his new Porsche 550 to a race in Salinas California when, traveling at 85 mph, he collided with a 1950 Ford Tudor, also speeding, driven by a 23 year old college student. Dean died, his passenger and the other driver survived.

In 1988, on December 16th, 1988 the popular film Rain Man was released. Featuring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. this film brought attention to autistic savants and was based on the "megasavant" Laurence Kim Peek. The film would later go to win four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.

In 1999, the fear that Y2K (year 2000) would cause the failure of computers worldwide when clocks didn't properly update to January 1st, 2000 became near panic. While some computer systems and software did have problems, the panic was unfounded and computer life went on.
