In 1845, in the year that Catherine Mary Rogers was born, on January 23rd, the US Congress created a uniform date for federal elections. From that date on, they were held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November - the date when Presidential elections are held currently.

In 1852, when she was merely 7 years old, on March 2nd, an experimental steam fire engine was tested in the US. Great Britain had begun using "steam pumpers" after 1829, when they were invented.

In 1854, she was merely 9 years old when the fashion house Louis Vuitton was founded in Paris by Louis Vuitton Malletier. Beginning with trunks - and soon new ingenious flat topped trunks that could be stacked - the company now produces trunks and leather goods as well as clothing, watches, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, books and other accessories.

In 1860, at the age of just 15 years old, Catherine was alive when on February 26th, near Eureka California, white settlers attacked a tribe of Wiyot Indians on Indian Island. Over 60 women, children and older people died. Bret Harte - a writer and friend of Mark Twain - reported the news about the massacre to the papers in San Francisco.

In 1878, in the year of Catherine Mary Rogers's passing, in Africa, the death of the last confirmed Cape lion occurred. The Cape lion was slightly larger than other lions and had black ears, a black mane, and black hair on its belly.
