Timeline

1802 - In the year that Charles Babineau was born, on October 17th, the Treaty of Fort Confederation was signed between the Choctaw (a Native American tribe) and the United States Government. About 10,000 acres of Choctaw land were given up.

1826 - At the age of 24 years old, Charles was alive when on March 10th, João VI, King of Portugal and the former Emperor of Brazil, died after a short illness. Six days earlier, the King had become ill after eating at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon. An investigative autopsy in the late 1990's discovered that he had been killed by arsenic poisoning - having enough arsenic in his body to kill two people.

1831 - When he was 29 years old, around July 15th, the volcanic island of Graham Island briefly emerged in the Mediterranean Sea. The island was discovered by Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, a British sea captain, on August 1st and claimed by the United Kingdom. The island still exists but is now once again underwater.

1862 - When he was 60 years old, on February 22nd, Jefferson Davis was inaugurated as President of the Confederate States of America. His term was to be for 6 years.

1881 - In the year of Charles Babineau's passing, on October 26th, the "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" happened in Tombstone, Arizona. The gunfight lasted only 30 seconds - the Earps and Doc Holliday on one side and the "Cowboys" on the other side. The McLaury brothers and Billy Clanton of the Cowboys were killed. Two of the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday were wounded.
