1880 - In the year that Charles Parker was born, on February 2nd the city of Wabash, Indiana became the third city in the world to be lit by electricity.

1922 - He was 42 years old when the Reparations Commission assessed German liability for World War 1 at 132 billion gold marks (over $32 billion U.S. dollars at the time). This led to hyperinflation in Germany and created the political and social atmosphere in which Hitler was able to rise to power.

1948 - At the age of 68 years old, Charles was alive when on May 14th, the State of Israel was proclaimed by David Ben-Gurion, who became Israel's first Premier, and the U.S. officially recognized Israel. That evening, Egypt launched an air assault on Israel.

1959 - When he was 79 years old, on August 8th, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. The US flag was changed to show 50 stars.

1967 - In the year of Charles Parker's passing, on October 2nd, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first black US Supreme Court justice. Marshall was the great-grandson of a slave and graduated first in his class at Howard University Law School. His nomination to the Supreme Court was approved by the Senate, 69 to 11.
