In 1846, in the year that Charles Rogers was born, on April 25th, conflict widened in Texas' border disputes with Mexico, following the US annexation of Texas. On May 13th, the United States declared war on Mexico and the Mexican-American War officially began.

In 1856, at the age of merely 10 years old, Charles was alive when on March 31st, The Treaty of Paris was signed by the Russian Empire and the allied forces of the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire, the French Empire, and the Kingdom of Sardinia. The Treaty ended the Crimean War which had begun almost 3 years earlier.

In 1860, he was just 14 years old when on December 20th, South Carolina seceded from the United States - the first state to do so. At the time, there were about 4 million people enslaved in the American South.

In 1872, by the time he was 26 years old, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1899, in the year of Charles Rogers's passing, on February 4th, the Philippine–American War began. The Philippines objected to the Treaty of Paris, signed in 1898, that transferred possession of the Philippines from Spain to the U.S. Filipinos began a fight for independence and fighting between U.S. forces and those of the Philippine Republic broke out. On June 2nd, the Philippines officially declared war on the United States.
