In 1803, in the year that Charlotte Cameron was born, on March 1st, Ohio became the 17th state of the United States. Because Congress never passed a resolution declaring Ohio a state, however, it wasn't until 1953 that Ohio retroactively became an official state.

In 1827, she was 24 years old when on February 28th, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad - the B&O - was incorporated. The B&O became the first railroad to carry both people and freight and was Maryland's answer to the Erie Canal. Construction began on July 4th, 1828.

In 1848, by the time she was 45 years old, on February 21st, The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels - German philosophers - was published in London. The pamphlet said that "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles".

In 1852, Charlotte was 49 years old when in Springfield Massachusetts, Smith & Wesson was founded. Their first gun was the Volcanic rifle. The company later expanded their line to include revolvers and ammunition.

In 1868, in the year of Charlotte Cameron's passing, on August 13th, an estimated 8.5 to 9 earthquake struck southern Peru. It had a category "extreme" effect and caused over 25,000 deaths. The resulting tsunami affected areas as far away as Hawaii and New Zealand.
