In 1800, when he was 48 years old, the federal government moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. The site of the new capital had been chosen by President George Washington several years earlier and he appointed Pierre (Peter) Charles L'Enfant to lay out a plan for the new city.

In 1805, at the age of 53 years old, Cornelius was alive when Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23rd in Sharon, Vermont. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York and when he was 24, he published the Book of Mormon. By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1814, in the year of Cornelius Drew's passing, on December 24th, the Treaty of Ghent was signed, officially ending the War of 1812 between Great Britain and the United States. It took 2 months for the news of the Treaty to reach the United States - in the meantime, the Battle of New Orleans was fought.
