1886 - At the age of just 11 years old, David was alive when on October 28th, President Grover Cleveland officially dedicated the Statue of Liberty. 1902 - He was 27 years old when the first Rose Bowl game was played in Pasadena, California. (The Stanford captain requested an end to the game with 8 minutes remaining.) The Tournament of Roses Parade began in 1890 and the football game began as a way to boost tourism in the area.

1946 - In the year of David Edwards's passing, pediatrician Dr. Benjamin Spock's book "The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care" was published. It sold half a million copies in the first six months. Aside from the Bible, it became the best selling book of the 20th century. A generation of Baby Boomers were raised by the advice of Dr. Spock.
