Dawn Helen Carter died in 1943 in Carlton, Australia. She is the child of Carter Reginald George Carter and May Justis Carter Carter.

In 1800, Alessandro Volta presented his findings about the first electrical battery, proving that electricity could be generated chemically and debunking the widely held theory that electricity was generated solely by living beings.

In 1839, in Mississippi the first state law was passed allowing married women to own property in their own name. Other states had previously allowed women who were deserted by their husbands to own property, but Mississippi was the first state in which women could now own and control property while their husband was alive and present.

In 1853, in October, the Crimean War began. Allies the Ottoman Empire, France, Britain and Sardinia fought the Russian Empire in a war that began as a religious conflict but ended up being an effort to curb the expansion of the Russian Empire. The war ended in 1856.

In 1907, the second Hague peace conference was called by Russia in the Netherlands. While nothing was settled regarding the matter of peace among nations, many resolutions were passed (and accepted by many nations) about the conventions of war - especially the protection of noncombatants.

In 1943, in the year of Dawn Helen Carter's passing, on June 20th through June 22nd, the Detroit Race Riot erupted at Belle Isle Park. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.
