Domenic DiDonato was my Grandfather and was one of the most inspiring people in my life, born in Italy, came to the USA around 1916 he knew no English, slept under a park bench until taken in by an Italian family, he came to be a wonderful citizen of this great country, worked as crane repairman, the cranes that unloaded parts and supplies at the Ford River Rouge plant, forced into retirement because he just didn't want to stop working after he left Fords moved into my Mom and Dad's house and my 9 brothers and sisters he worked with my Dad until he died, he will always be a tremendous inspiration in my life, just an incredible and hardworking man,Thanks Grandpa, With all my Love Thank You for teaching me many things, your Grandson Nickolas James DiDonato

In 1897, in the year that Domenic DiDonato was born, on September 21st, editor and publisher Francis P. Church responded to a letter to the editor from Virginia O'Hanlon, 8 years old. Virginia's father had told her that "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." So she wrote to the Sun, asking if there was a Santa Claus. Church responded with the now famous editorial "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".

In 1920, he was 23 years old when the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote, passed both Houses of Congress and was sent to the States to ratify. In August, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the Amendment and it became law eight days later. Mississippi ratified it in 1984.

Who was your closest friend in childhood? It may have been a brother, sister, cousin, or neighbor - but if you were a girl, your toy dolls might have ranked towards the top.
