In 1839, in the year that Elena v DeAmor was born, in Mississippi the first state law was passed allowing married women to own property in their own name. Other states had previously allowed women who were deserted by their husbands to own property, but Mississippi was the first state in which women could now own and control property while their husband was alive and present.

In 1890, at the age of 51 years old, Elena was alive when on October 9th, in Satory, France, the first fixed-wing, steam powered aircraft flew. "Ader √Čole" flew, uncontrolled, for about 160 ft. at a height of just under 8 inches off the ground.

In 1904, when she was 65 years old, the Russo-Japanese war began. The Russian Empire and the Japanese Empire began fighting over the territories of Manchuria and Korea. Russia wanted a warm water port on the Pacific Ocean while Japan feared growing encroachment from Russia into Asia. So the Japan fleet launched a surprise attack on the Russian Navy and a one year war began. President Roosevelt of the United States brokered peace between the two nations. It was the first time in the modern era that an Asian power showed its dominance over a European power.

In 1911, she was 72 years old when the United States Supreme Court broke up Standard Oil in May. John D. Rockefeller established Standard Oil in 1870 and it was the largest oil refinery at the time. The Supreme Court found that Standard Oil of New Jersey (one of the many iterations of Standard Oil) was guilty of "monopolizing the petroleum industry through a series of abusive and anticompetitive actions". The Court broke up the several entities that comprised Standard Oil and they eventually became competing firms.

In 1921, in the year of Elena v DeAmor's passing, the silent film The Sheik, directed by George Melford and starring Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayres (also featuring Adolphe Menjou) debuted on October 21st. Critics weren't enthusiastic but the public loved it - in the first few weeks 125,000 people had seen the movie - and it eventually exceeded $1 million in ticket sales. And Rudolph Valentino, an Italian American, became the heartthrob of a female generation.
