Eliza Ada Floren Smith passed away in 1959 in Moon, Australia at 77 years of age. She was born in 1882. She was born to Broughton Jame Smith and Eliza Blackwell Smith.

In 1882, in the year that Eliza Ada Floren Smith was born, on January 5th, writer and lawyer Charles J. Guiteau was found guilty of the assassination of President Garfield. Guiteau was "offended" because his job applications had been rejected by Garfield's government. He was sentenced to death -although his lawyer plead insanity - and hanged five months later, on June 30th.

In 1895, she was only 13 years old when on September 3rd, in Latrobe, PA, the first professional football game was played. The game was between the Latrobe YMCA and the Jeannette Athletic Club. Latrobe won 12 - 0.

In 1922, when she was 40 years old, on December 6th, the Irish Free State, a self-governing dominion of the British Empire, was officially proclaimed. While establishing some independence for the people of Ireland, it did not create a fully independent Ireland and the fighting continued.

In 1937, Eliza was 55 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.

In 1959, in the year of Eliza Ada Floren Smith's passing, on August 8th, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. The US flag was changed to show 50 stars.
