Elizabeth Carnes married David Poe Sr. (1743 - 1816) and they had daughters, Elizabeth (Poe) Herring (1792 - 1822) and Maria (Poe) Clemm (1790 - 1871) and son David Poe (1784 - 1811), David was the father of Edgar Allen Poe, making Elizabeth Carnes Poe the paternal grandmother of Edgar Allen Poe, writer and poet. They also had children John, William, George, and Samuel.
