1864 - In the year that Ellen Elizabeth Bragge was born, on August 13th, the first fish and chips shop opened in London England. By the 1930's, there were over 35,000 shops throughout the United Kingdom.

1865 - At the age of only 1 year old, Ellen was alive when on July 5th, the U.S. Secret Service was created. The first duty of the Secret Service was investigating counterfeit money. Duties soon expanded to murder, bank robbery, and illegal gambling - and, after the assassination of President McKinley in 1901, presidential protection.

1866 - She was merely 2 years old when on February 13th, the first robbery committed by Jesse James and his gang - a daylight bank robbery - occurred in Liberty, Missouri. Jesse's presence has been disputed but most historians agree that he was there.

1868 - When she was just 4 years old, on August 13th, an estimated 8.5 to 9 earthquake struck southern Peru. It had a category "extreme" effect and caused over 25,000 deaths. The resulting tsunami affected areas as far away as Hawaii and New Zealand.

1870 - In the year of Ellen Elizabeth Bragge's passing, on June 26th, Christmas was declared an official federal holiday in the United States. By 1860, 14 states had declared Christmas a legal holiday but the practice of celebrating Christmas was a local - and religious - choice previously.
