earl leubner age 63 of centerport road in weedsport died monday at auburn memorial hospital after a long illness. surviving are his wife, the former charmaine curtis, two daughters; thola wilmarth and barbara jean krebs. two brothers robert and fred and five grandchildren. earl will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends and the love of laughter. there was never a time he didnt have a smile on his face and a bad time could turn into a fun and joyful time when he was around. he will be missed by all who knew him in the surrounding centerport area.predeceased his sister; elizabeth "betty" leubner dixon his mother; emily k hudson leubner and his father emil h leubner earl served his country in the army and was a veteran of the korean war.

In 1933, in the year that Emil Earl Leubner was born, on December 5th, the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. The 21st Amendment said "The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed." Alcohol was legal again! It was the only amendment to the Constitution approved for the explicit purpose of repealing a previously existing amendment. South Carolina was the only state to reject the Amendment.

In 1945, at the age of just 12 years old, Emil was alive when on August 6th, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. On August 9th, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. At least 129,000 people were killed in the two bombings and they still remain the only use of atomic bombs in war. An invasion on mainland Japan had been planned but President Truman ordered the bombs dropped instead.

In 1968, Emil was 35 years old when on June 5th, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles by Sirhan after celebrating his win in the California presidential primary. He died the next day at Good Samaritan Hospital.

In 1983, when he was 50 years old, "crack" cocaine was developed in the Bahamas and spread to the United States. Previously, cocaine had been cut with other substances, diluting it. Crack was 80% pure and therefore was more addictive. It was also cheaper, making it more easily available to low income neighborhoods.

In 1997, in the year of Emil Earl Leubner's passing, on June 26th, the first Harry Potter book by J. K. Rowling was released. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was an immediate success and spawned not only sequels but also movies, video games, plays, and amusement park attractions. J.K. Rowling, at the time of the first book a poor single mother, has become a multi-billionaire.
