Emma Anne (Farrar) Gillett of Shelford, Golden Plains Shire County, VIC Australia was born on March 6, 1854 in Shelford to Matthew Farrar and Matilda Robinson Farrar. She had siblings Stella Matilda (Farrar) Blacker, Ada Eden (Farrar) Caldow, Matthew John Farrar, Selina Robinson (Farrar) Wilson, Maude Mary Presnell Farrar, Alice Elizabeth (Farrar) Scott, George William Farrar, Thomas Matthew Farrar, James Michael Farrar, and Charles Ward Farrar. She married Alfred Robert Rice Gillett in 1876, and had children Maud Ann (Gillett) Groves, George Vincent Gillett, Hannah Ida Gillett, Mary Matilda Gillett, James Andrew Gillett, Charles Alfred Gillett, Alice Bertha Gillett, Harriet Selina Gillett, and Walter Robert Gillett. Emma Gillett died at age 87 years old on August 3, 1941 in Shelford.

In 1854, in the year that Emma Ann (Farrar) Gillett was born, on May 30th, the Kansas–Nebraska Act became law. The act created both the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, which would determine for themselves if they would be pro-slavery or free. Both territories allowed slavery but it caused contention within the territories.
Did you know?
In 1888, at the age of 34 years old, Emma was alive when on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.
