4 Memories, Stories & Photos about Emma

Not sure now if there were not two children in the family.....OK Emma Stanley Smith died at 9 months of age....check Victoria BMD Index. So our Emily Agnes is not her. There were not children born in Victoria around that time called Emily Agnes except one who was born to a couple called Blackie. Father died 1857, and maybe mother could not cope so Mary took in her daughter, remembering that hers had died, and then 'called' her Kerwin when she married Matthew.

There are photos of her and her husband and children on Ancestry. She married, as Emily Agnes Kerwin, not Emma Stanley Smith. Her mother remarried after Charles died in 1856 and she took on his name.

No, I want to tell others that she changed her name. Her mother had the name of Slattery not Slatery.

Emma was born in 1856 to Charles and Mary Slattery. He died in 1856 at only 23 at Liverpool, NSW. They married in 1855 at Parramatta. Baby 'Emma' changed her name to Emily Agness/Agnes, or her parents did...or somebody did...and she was then knows as Emily from then on....She was reg in Melbourne. Her mother then married Matthew Kerwin, and had a tribe of kids. From then on she was known as Kerwin not Smith.....she grew up and married Martin Mulroney and had ten kids as I remember. Bill married Josie Rojan and had a Margaret. She died in 2009 but she married a James Gray. I am now engaged to him. He is 81 on 19th Feb this year. Robyn Shaw, Toowoomba
