1918 - In the year that Esau Franklin was born, in July, Russian revolutionaries executed the former Tzar Nicholas II and his immediate family. 1919 - When he was just 1 year old, in June, the Treaty of Versailles - officially ending World War I - was signed. The European Allies demanded "compensation by Germany for all damage done to the civilian population of the Allies and their property by the aggression of Germany by land, by sea and from the air.” The requirement of compensation is seen by most as the reason for the collapse of the German economy and gave rise to the rule of Hitler.

1933 - Esau was only 15 years old when on December 5th, the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. The microprocessor has since allowed computers to become smaller and faster, leading to smaller and more versatile handheld devices, home computers, and supercomputers.

1994 - When he was 76 years old, on May 6th, former political prisoner, lawyer, and activist Nelson Mandela was elected the first black President of South Africa. He was 75 when he was elected and he served one five-year term.
