She married Isaac W Williams, and had children George Williams, Susie (Williams), Bessie (Williams), Thurman Richard Williams, Stanley Williams, and Margie N (Williams). Ettie Williams died at age 67 years old on May 25, 1953.

Immediately popular, the paperback book was sold for $1 in the U.S. - almost $25 today. Stevenson's stepson said that he wrote the first draft in under 3 days.
