Fanny M. (Janssen) Roos, was born September 25, 1896, southeast of Syracuse, Nebraska.
She married Theodore Roos on October 12, 1916. Together they lived on the family farm southwest of Dunbar, Nebraska and later moved to a farm west of the Delaware Church (Nebraska). They retired in 1946 and moved to Syracuse.

Following the death of her husband in 1958, She did baby sitting and worked for many years at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Syracuse, sang in the choir and was treasurer of the Dorcas Society for many years, until the church closed . She the became a member of Luther Memorial Church (Syracuse) and was an active member of the quilters group until her health failed.

In 1896, in the year that Fanny Meta (Janssen) Roos was born, on August 17th, the first pedestrian v car fatality occurred in Great Britain. Bridget Driscoll, age 44, was walking with her family on the grounds of The Crystal Palace in London when she was hit by a car driven by Arthur James Edsall. Edsall claimed to be going 4.5 mph and Driscoll's death was ruled an "accidental death" after an inquest.

In 1920, at the age of 24 years old, Fanny was alive when on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.

In 1934, when she was 38 years old, on November 11th 1933, an extremely strong dust storm hit South Dakota, stripping topsoil. Other strong dust storms had occurred during 1933. Severe droughts continued to hit the Great Plains and the dust storms devastated agricultural production as well as people's' lives for several years. The Roosevelt administration and scientists eventually determined that farming practices had caused the conditions that led to the dust storms and the changes they implemented in farming stopped the Dust Bowl.

In 1975, she was 79 years old when on September 5th, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme tried to assassinate President Ford in Sacramento, California. She failed when her gun wouldn't fire. President Ford escaped a second assassination attempt 17 days later on September 22 when Sarah Jane Moore tried to shoot him in San Francisco. A bystander saw her raise her arm, grabbed it, and the shot went wild.

In 1986, in the year of Fanny Meta (Janssen) Roos's passing, on January 28th, the space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after launch. All seven crew members died. The cause of the explosion was later found to be a failed O-ring. The O-ring failure was due to the unusually cold conditions at Cape Canaveral.
