Fanny M. (Janssen) Roos, was born September 25, 1896, southeast of Syracuse, Nebraska.
She married Theodore Roos on October 12, 1916. Together they lived on the family farm southwest of Dunbar, Nebraska and later moved to a farm west of the Delaware Church (Nebraska). They retired in 1946 and moved to Syracuse.

Following the death of her husband in 1958, She did baby sitting and worked for many years at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Syracuse, sang in the choir and was treasurer of the Dorcas Society for many years, until the church closed . She the became a member of Luther Memorial Church (Syracuse) and was an active member of the quilters group until her health failed.

In 1896, in the year that Fanny Meta (Janssen) Roos was born, on January 4th, Utah became the 45th state in the United States. After the LDS Church banned polygamy in 1890, Utah's application for statehood became acceptable to Congress and the Utah Territory became Utah..

In 1906, when she was only 10 years old, President Theodore Roosevelt received the Nobel Prize for Peace. The award was considered controversial at the time because many thought that he was an imperialist. But he had brokered peace between Russia and Japan a year previous and had allowed a dispute between Mexico and the U.S. to go to arbitration, resolving the issue peacefully rather than resorting to military conflict. For these two reasons, the Nobel Prize committee chose him for the Peace Prize.

In 1943, Fanny was 47 years old when on June 20th through June 22nd, the Detroit Race Riot erupted at Belle Isle Park. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.

In 1961, she was 65 years old when on May 5th, Navy Cmdr. Alan B. Shepard, Jr., made the first manned Project Mercury flight, MR-3, in a spacecraft he named Freedom 7. He was the second man to go into space, the first was Yuri Gagarin - a Soviet cosmonaut.

In 1986, in the year of Fanny Meta (Janssen) Roos's passing, on September 8th, the Oprah Winfrey Show went into national syndication. A popular talk show, it was number 1 in the ratings since its debut. The last show aired on May 25, 2011.
