Fidellis Ott passed away on November 25, 1872 at Wirt Co., WV at age 81. he was buried in Ott Cemetery, Right Reedy Road,(Wirt Sheppard Farm). He was born on July 28, 1791 at PA. We are unaware of information about Fidellis' surviving family.

In 1802, he was just 11 years old when on March 16, Congress established the United States Military Academy at West Point - the oldest of the five service academies in the United States and one of the oldest service academies in the world.

In 1813, at the age of 22 years old, Fidellis was alive when on March 4th, President James Madison was inaugurated to his second term. Madison received 50.4% of the vote, defeating rival DeWitt Clinton.

In 1830, at the age of 39 years old, Fidellis was alive when on May 28th, the US Congress passed the Indian Removal Act. The Act authorized the President to negotiate with Native Americans in the southern region of the US, exchanging their ancestral lands for federal territory west of the Mississippi River. Tens of thousands of Native Americans were forced to move - and march - west.

In 1869, he was 78 years old when on March 4th, Ulysses S. Grant became the 18th President of the United States. Previously a Union General, Grant beat the Democrat candidate, Horatio Seymour, 52.7% to 47.3% in the general vote.

In 1872, in the year of Fidellis Ott's passing, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.
