Frances B Fernandez of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN was born on February 20, 1924 to Collie Armstead Ballard and Anna Mae Ballard. She had siblings Carl ("Roger") Ballard, Sybil (Ballard) Mitchell, Sue (Ballard) Fisher Kughler, Bill Ballard, Barbara Jean (Ballard) Hearne, and Mickey Ballard. Frances Fernandez married Anthony ("Tony") Fernandez, and died at age 82 years old on December 4, 2006.

Introduction

She married Tony Fernandez during WWII. He was from Tampa, FL; she was from Cleveland County in central Arkansas. Frances ("Fran") was twenty years old in 1944 when her first child, Anne Fernandez, was born. In 1947, she had a son, Alan Fernandez. She and her family moved to Chattanooga, TN in 1957 because of Tony's job transfer--he worked for Sears & Roebuck. Fran and Tony divorced in the mid-1960s, but remarried in the Fall of 1967. Their second marriage lasted less than 2 years. Frances stayed in Chattanooga and remained a Catholic; she never married again. She had five grandchildren: David, Tina, and Katie Fernandez, and Joanna & Jessica Fazio. Her three nieces lived with her after her sister Sue's death in July 1967: the older niece, Susan Fisher, for only a year before college, the two younger ones, Juno & Iris Kughler, for 13 and 16 years respectively, but it was not a happy home for them.
