George White Ogleby of Emerald Hill Australia was born on February 12, 1857 in Emerald Hill, Victoria to William Ogleby and Elizabeth Alice (White) Ogleby. He had a brother Frederick John Ogleby. He married Wilhemina Augusta (Smith) Ogleby in 1879, and had children William James Ogleby and George White Ogleby. George Ogleby died at age 68 years old on November 15, 1925 at Halfway Cottage in Sorrento, Shire of Mornington Peninsula County, VIC.

In 1886, George was 29 years old when on May 4th, a general strike began in Chicago. Workers were striking for an 8 hour workday and in protest of the killing - by police - of several workers the day before. When an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb, the strike became violent. Seven policemen were killed as well as 4 civilians. It became known as the Haymarket Riot and eventually resulted in an 8 hourwork day as well as commemorations on May 1st for worker's rights.
