Giovanni Gianfriddo died in 1959 in Melbourne, Australia. He was born to Salvatore Gianfriddo and Hazel Horton Gianfriddo.

In 1809, on March 4th, James Madison was inaugurated as the fourth President of the United States. Madison ended his inaugural address with "gratitude towards people in the past who had done so much for the United States, and wished the best for the future of this young thriving country".

In 1879, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1882, on September 4th, the switch to the first commercial electrical power plant in the U.S. - at 255-257 Pearl Street - was flipped by Thomas Edison. It lit one square mile of lower Manhattan and was powered by coal. The "electrical age" had begun.

In 1896, on January 28th, the first ticket for speeding - called "furious driving" - was issued. Walter Arnold of Kent England was fined 1 shilling plus costs - for going 8 mph. The speed limit was 2 mph.

In 1959, in the year of Giovanni Gianfriddo's passing, on January 3rd, Alaska became the 49th state of the United States and the first state not a part of the contiguous United States. The flag was changed to display 49 stars.
