The resources managed by the National Park Service have often been referred to as the "crown jewels" of the United States.

1949 - By the time she was 33 years old, on April 4th, NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was established. Greece, Turkey, and West Germany later joined. Today, there are 26 nations in NATO.

1968 - At the age of 52 years old, Grace was alive when on June 5th, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles by Sirhan after celebrating his win in the California presidential primary. He died the next day at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Jones was the leader of the cult and ordered his followers to drink cyanide-laced punch, which they did. Whole families (women and children included) died - more than 900 people in all.

1983 - Grace was 67 years old when "crack" cocaine was developed in the Bahamas and spread to the United States. Previously, cocaine had been cut with other substances, diluting it. Crack was 80% pure and therefore was more addictive. It was also cheaper, making it more easily available to low income neighborhoods.
