Four Generations of the Ashendens, 1920s
A snapshot of the Ashenden family found at a Texas antique store with other photos of the Ashenden family of Massachusetts. Description uploaded separately. The older baby on the left is identified as Richard Murray, but Richard apparently wasn't born until after his grandfather Daniel (holding the little boy) had died. I think the boy is therefore more likely to be Richard's brother Edward.

In 1919, in the year that Harley Elizabeth (Frye) Fowler was born, in June, the Treaty of Versailles - officially ending World War I - was signed. The European Allies demanded "compensation by Germany for all damage done to the civilian population of the Allies and their property by the aggression of Germany by land, by sea and from the air.” The requirement of compensation is seen by most as the reason for the collapse of the German economy and gave rise to the rule of Hitler.

I love antique photographs. In addition to sharing old photos of my family, I am also going through my collection of "antique store people". They've been sitting in a storage tub in my back room much too long and maybe some of their families will be able to find them here.
If I'm able to identify the people in the photo, I upload it not only to AncientFaces, but also to Ancestry, FamilySearch, and Find-A-Grave. If the person in the picture is a military veteran, the photo also goes on Fold3. I figure that the more places I upload these pictures, the greater the chance that a relative will be able to find them.

Fashion in the Early 1900s
This video shows the fashions, hairstyles, contraptions (okay, buggies and cars), and activities of the early 1900's. The dresses are lovely - but how did people move and breathe in that restrictive clothing? It's amazing how hardy our ancestors were! It took a lot of effort (and time) to be stylish and then go out and play. (Be sure to turn up your speakers to hear the tunes of the day.)
