1890 - In the year that Harry Demas was born, on January 2nd, Alice Sanger became the first female staffer to work in the White House. She was hired as a stenographer and, as such, took dictation.

1893 - At the age of just 3 years old, Harry was alive when on November 7th, the women of Colorado were given the right to vote via a state referendum. Fifty-five percent of voters turned out and the referendum passed with 35,798 voting in favor and 29,551 voting against.

1916 - When he was 26 years old, the Battle of Verdun was fought from February through December. It was the largest and longest battle of World War I, lasting 303 days.
