In 1896, by the time she was 25 years old, on May 18th, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in the case of Plessy v. Ferguson. By a vote of 7 to 1, the Court upheld state racial segregation laws, introducing the idea of "separate but equal" facilities for races.

In 1915, when she was 44 years old, in April, the Ottoman Empire rounded up, arrested, and deported 235 to 270 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Turkey. As their actions continued through the next several years, an estimated 600,000 to 1 million Armenians were killed by Turkish soldiers.

Wells' novel, the show began with simulated "breaking news" of an invasion by Martians. Although the current story is that many were fooled and panicked, in reality very few people were fooled. But the show made Orson Welles' career.
