1931 - At the age of 17 years old, Howard was alive when in March, “The Star Spangled Banner” officially became the national anthem by congressional resolution. He was released in 1962 after 1 year, 9 months and 10 days in prison.

1967 - When he was 53 years old, on November 7th, President Johnson signed legislation passed by Congress that created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which would later become PBS and NPR.
