In 1882, in the year that Howard Young was born, on August 3rd, President Chester Arthur signed the 1882 Immigration Act. "Criminals, the insane, or any person unable to take care of him or herself" were not allowed in the U.S. according to the Act. It also imposed a "head tax" on non-citizens entering the U.S.

In 1921, hugely popular Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, silent film star, was arrested for rape and manslaughter after an actress died following a party at his house. He was acquitted after three trials and the jury wrote a formal letter apologizing for the charges, but his career never recovered. His films were at first banned - the ban was lifted after a year - and he was mostly ostracized by the community. He died at 46..

Pearl Harbor - A Day That Will Live In Infamy
On Sunday, December 7th 1941, the Japanese nation launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, a U.S. naval base in Hawaii. On Monday December 8th, President Franklin Roosevelt addressed a joint session of Congress, calling the attack "a date which will live in infamy". An hour later Congress declared war on Japan - thus entering World War 2 and a war against all the Axis powers. These photos below are from the actual attack, and show the destruction, hurt, and sorrow on this day that has lived in infamy.
