In 1918, in the year that Ida House was born, on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.

In 1944, at the age of 26 years old, Ida was alive when on June 22nd, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, called the G.I. Bill, was signed into law, pushed through by the veteran's organizations. Benefits provided for veterans to return to school (high school, vocational school, or college), obtain low interest home mortgages and low interest business loans, and (if needed) one year of unemployment insurance. Since most returning vets immediately found work, less than 20% of the unemployment benefits were distributed.

In 1956, at the age of 38 years old, Ida was alive when this was the year that the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, became an international sensation. Elvis scandalized adults and thrilled teens.

In 1974, by the time she was 56 years old, on August 9th, Gerald R. Ford became the 38th President of the United States. He had been Vice President for 8 months when he became President due to the resignation of President Nixon.

In 1987, in the year of Ida House's passing, was the first time that a criminal in the United States - a serial rapist - was convicted through the use of DNA evidence.
