James "Jim" Thwaites 1888 - 1951

James Thwaites of Colac, Colac Otway Shire County, VIC Australia was born on October 18, 1888 in Drysdale, Greater Geelong City County to Alfred James Thwaites and Susannah Wiffen Thwaites. He had siblings Alfred John "Alf" Thwaites, Herbert "Bert" Thwaites, Myrtle Elizabeth Thwaites, Leslie Thwaites, Thomas Thwaites, and Stanley Thwaites. He married Charlotte Sarah Bowen in 1910, and had children George Reginald Thwaites and Florence Lillian Thwaites. James Thwaites died at age 63 years old on October 28, 1951 in Colac, Colac Otway Shire County.

In 1888, in the year that James "Jim" Thwaites was born, on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.
