In 1802, when he was 49 years old, on May 22, 1802, the first First Lady of the United States, Martha (Dandridge) Custis Washington died of a severe fever at age 70. Martha was buried next to her husband George Washington, at Mt. Vernon.

In 1804, he was 51 years old when on December 2nd, Napoleon was crowned as Emperor of France. It was a spectacular ceremony - even the Pope attended - and Napoleon and Josephine's garments were expensive and lavish. Napoleon lifted the crown to his own head, effectively naming himself Emperor. After the actual coronation, street musicians and peddlers entertained the crowds in the streets.

In 1805, Jesse was 52 years old when Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23rd in Sharon, Vermont. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York and when he was 24, he published the Book of Mormon. By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1806, in the year of Jesse Woodmansee's passing, on May 30th, Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson in a duel. Dickinson accused Jackson of cheating on a bet, then insulted his wife Rachel - accusing her of bigamy. Although Dickinson had the first shot - and hit Jackson in the chest, near his heart - Jackson shot (maybe twice, which would have been illegal) and killed Dickinson. Although it is thought that Jackson fought anywhere from 5 to 100 duels (he had a bad temper), he won a run for President in 1829.

In 1808, at the age of 55 years old, Jesse was alive when in late November or early December, the "mystery volcano" erupted. The eruption was so large that it affected air temperatures, the color of the sun, and cloud formations. It is believed the volcano was located in the western Pacific Ocean, somewhere between Indonesia and Tonga. Scientists are still trying to figure out the (exact) where, when, and how.
