Jocelyn Brando was born on November 18, 1919 in San Francisco, California United States to Marlon Brando Sr and Dorothy Julia (Pennebaker) Brando, and had siblings Marlon Brando and Frances Elizabeth Brando. She married Don Hanmer in 1945 and they later divorced on April 4, 1950. They had a child Gahan Hanmer. She married Eliot T Asinof on April 13, 1950 and they later divorced in 1955. They had a child Martin Asinof. Jocelyn Brando died at age 86 years old on November 27, 2005 in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County.

In 1919, in the year that Jocelyn Brando was born, on January 6th, President Theodore Roosevelt died. Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.

In 1923, by the time she was just 4 years old, Harlem's Cotton Club opened in New York City. Owned by a bootlegger and gangster, it was a 700 seat speakeasy that catered to a "white only" clientele. But most of the entertainers were African-American and featured some of the best entertainers of the time such as Lena Horne, the Nicholas Brothers, Ethel Waters, and Cab Calloway.
