John Edward Schiffner 1920 - 1977

John Edward Schiffner of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico was born on May 18, 1920 at Pasamonte Lake in Union County to Orpah Morgan Schiffner and Fred Edward Schiffner. He had siblings James Schiffner, Doris Schiffner, and Betty Schiffner. He married Dolores May Williams, and had children Michael David Schiffner and Martin Lee Schiffner. John Schiffner died at age 57 years old in November 1977 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, and was buried circa February 1978 at Ashes were spread on Sandia Mountains.

In 1920, in the year that John Edward Schiffner was born, the National Football League, first called the American Professional Football Association, was created. College football was more popular than pro football and rising player salaries were bankrupting league owners. In response, owners created the NFL, using the pro baseball association as a model. Eleven teams were formed: the Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Indians, Dayton Triangles, Decatur Staleys, Hammond Pros, Massillon Tigers, Muncie Flyers, Racine Cardinals, Rochester Jeffersons and Rock Island Independents.

In 1934, by the time he was merely 14 years old, on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
