Did you know?
In 1898, in the year that John Hartis was born, on March 24th, Robert Allison of Pennsylvania became the first person to buy an American-built car. He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American. The Winton, built in Ohio, was made by hand and came with a leather roof, padded seats, gas lamps, and tires made by B.F. Goodrich.
Did you know?
In 1910, he was merely 12 years old when Halley's comet, which returns past the earth every 75 - 76 years was observed photographically for the first time. Two fortuitous events occurred - photography had been invented since the last time the comet had passed and the comet was relatively close. There was panic because one astronomer claimed that the gas from its tail "would impregnate the atmosphere and possibly snuff out all life on the planet." People bought gas masks, "anti-comet pills" and "anti-comet umbrellas".

Highlights of just a few of the many successes of sharing memories within the AncientFaces Community. From reuniting Lost & Found or 'orphan' photos with their families, seeing faces of relatives for the first time, to the many connections made with family & friends, and the profound discoveries about our loved ones and ancestors. Special moments like these are why it's important we share.

Toys Were Much Simpler In The Past
Toys were much simpler in the days before technology gave us video games, smart phones, and computers. The most popular children's gifts were often made out of wood, metal and hair. In fact, before the billion dollar toy industry we have today, many toys were handmade at home by creative and crafty mothers and fathers. In these photos you can tell the children were genuinely happy with their toys, and you might just find yourself longing for a small taste of this simpler life.
