Introduction
John was born in 1820 in Ireland, likely in County Tipperary, Ireland. He married Hanna (Hanora, Honora, Hannora) Ryan, likely in Ireland. She was born 1820 in Ireland. They immigrated to New York in March 1852 and remained in that State for about six years. They had eight children. It is a remote possibility – however a strange coincidence – that he may have been the John Kelley who owned 280 acres of land in English township, Iowa County, Iowa until at least 1886; this land was adjacent to that of James Butler. In any case, they moved to Muscatine, Iowa about 1858. He died November 21, 1880; she died September 4, 1888. They were buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Section 34 of Bloomington Township, Muscatine County, Iowa.
