He killed James Bell and Robert Ollinger in the escape and then stole a horse and rode out of town. On July 14th, Pat Garrett shot and killed Billy the Kid in Billy's friend's home near Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

In 1890, he was only 9 years old when on June 1st, the U.S. Census Bureau started tabulating census returns with punch cards. Hollerith's company eventually became IBM.

In 1903, he was 22 years old when the book The Souls of Black Folk, written by W. E. B. Du Bois, was published. Originally airing as “The WSM Barn Dance”, the Opry (a local term for "opera") was dedicated to honoring country music and in its history has featured the biggest stars and acts in country music.

In 1959, in the year of John Mitchell's passing, on August 8th, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. The US flag was changed to show 50 stars.
