Senator Truman owned the guns. He bought them from the wife of a doctor in Southern Missouri. The doctor had treated Frank James, brother of Jesse and one of the James Gang, and Frank gave them to the doctor as payment. Frank said that Jesse had left the guns to him after being killed by the Pinkerton men.
