In 1900, in the year that John Tousseau was born, artist Henri Matisse, born in 1869 in France, began the fauvist movement. Only lasting a few years in popularity (ending around 1904), fauvism was in many ways the beginning of modern art. Matisse was fond of bright, vibrant colors and used them in his paintings - contrary to the muted use of color previously. While the fauvist movement declined in popularity, Matisse did not and he went on to create many more works of art and even a museum for his work, 2 years before his death in 1954. (In French, les Fauves means "the wild beasts". Matisse and those who followed his example were called "beasts" because of the bold colors that they used in their artwork.)

In 1920, at the age of 20 years old, John was alive when the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote, passed both Houses of Congress and was sent to the States to ratify. In August, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the Amendment and it became law eight days later. Mississippi ratified it in 1984.

The Real Story Of The USS Indianapolis
On July 30, 1945, after delivering the first working nuclear bomb (called "Little Boy" which was later dropped on Hiroshima) to the U.S. Navy base at Tinian in the Mariana Islands, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by the Japanese. She sank in 12 minutes. While she had a crew of 1,196, only 317 survived the entire ordeal with 300 dying in the sinking. This was the largest loss of life in a single event in the history of the U.S. Navy. The sinking of the ship was horrifying, but the survival story afterwards was worse... This is the story of four of those survivors, told in their own words.
