John Valentine Dunkinson of Narre Warren, City of Casey County, VIC Australia was born in 1836 in Sydney, NSW to William Dunkinson and Jean Georgina Johnston. He married Mary Ann (Butler) Dunkinson on April 23, 1856 in Richmond, City of Yarra County, Victoria, and they were married until Mary's death on October 20, 1917. He had a child Georgina Emily Dunkinson. John Dunkinson died at age 93 years old on May 14, 1930 in Narre Warren, City of Casey County, VIC.

In 1836, in the year that John Valentine Dunkinson was born, on June 15th, Arkansas was the 25th state admitted into the United States of America - and the 13th slave state in the Union. Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase, the area became the Territory of Arkansas in 1819 and the Territory immediately began the process of expelling native Americans to west of the Mississippi.

In 1874, by the time he was 38 years old, on September 14th, the Battle of Liberty Place occurred in New Orleans - the capital of Louisiana. Some members of the previous Confederate Army assembled for the purpose of "driving the usurpers from power" and the Republican Governor - William P. Kellogg - was physically driven from his office. The former Confederates temporarily replaced him with (the former) Democratic Governor John McEnery. Federal forces arrived, put down the insurrection, and five days later the legally elected government was restored.
