In 1800, at the age of 50 years old, John M. was alive when Alessandro Volta presented his findings about the first electrical battery, proving that electricity could be generated chemically and debunking the widely held theory that electricity was generated solely by living beings.

In 1809, at the age of 59 years old, John M. was alive when on March 4th, James Madison was inaugurated as the fourth President of the United States. Madison ended his inaugural address with "gratitude towards people in the past who had done so much for the United States, and wished the best for the future of this young thriving country".

In 1816, at the age of 66 years old, John M. was alive when on December 11th, Indiana was admitted as the 19th state in the Union. The name "Indiana" means “land of the Indians”.

In 1820, when he was 70 years old, volcano Mount Rainier, near Tacoma and Seattle, erupted. Between 1820 and 1894, there were at least 14 eruptions reported - most of them probably just ash and dust clouds.

In 1836, in the year of John Wallin Walling's passing, on June 15th, Arkansas was the 25th state admitted into the United States of America - and the 13th slave state in the Union. Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase, the area became the Territory of Arkansas in 1819 and the Territory immediately began the process of expelling native Americans to west of the Mississippi.
