    Joseph's parents were Rev Lee Royal Pediford (1885 - 1965) and Doshia Annette Maynard (1891 - 1975). He had siblings Queena, Henry, Jessie, Thomas, Hudson, Royal, Bessie, Hurley, and Windsor. In the 1920 federal census, Joseph was living with his parents, "Leeroyal" (sic) and Doshia. Also in the household were Queen (7) and Jessie (1). Everyone had been born in North Carolina. Father "Leeroyal" was a laborer, doing tobacco washing. Joseph was a veteran of World War II. He served as a PFC in the Army. On his draft registration card for World War 2 dated October 16, 1940, he stated that he was 26, 5 ft 11 inches, weighed 174 pounds, had a light brown complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. He had a scar on his "left chin". Joseph was living in New York City and his next of kin was his father, "Royal Pediford" He was unemployed.
