Did you know?
In 1917, in the year that Joseph Spina was born, in April, the U.S. entered World War I, declaring war against Germany. President Wilson had previously declared neutrality in the war - a position supported by the majority of Americans - but after Germany declared that they would sink all ships trading with Great Britain and sunk U.S. ships, public opinion began to change. Then the Lusitania was sunk, killing 1,201 - including 128 Americans - and more U.S. ships were sunk. The U.S. could stand aside no longer.

In 1945, on May 8th, World War II in Europe ended when Germany surrendered. Hitler had committed suicide a week before.

Everyday Fashion in the Early 1960's
Everyday fashion in the early 1960's sure was different from the late 60's. In the beginning of the decade, fashion was more of a continuation of the 1950's. This video from circa 1962 (60+ years ago!) was made by the Montgomery Ward catalogue and gives a good idea of what people dressed like during a normal day. It shows what housewives, men, and teens looked like at that time. Most of the clothing cost well under $15.00 - oh yes, times have changed!
