1852 - In the year that Kate Hamilton was born, in Springfield Massachusetts, Smith & Wesson was founded. Their first gun was the Volcanic rifle. The company later expanded their line to include revolvers and ammunition.

1865 - Kate was just 13 years old when on January 31st, the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was narrowly passed by the House (it was passed by the Senate over nine months earlier). The 13th Amendment outlawed slavery and involuntary servitude - the exception being for punishment for a crime.

1876 - By the time she was 24 years old, in the Spring, Sioux chief Sitting Bull's encampment in the region of the Little Bighorn River was expanded by "vast numbers" from other tribes. This meeting of Native Americans became the last great gathering of native peoples on the Great Plains.

1890 - When she was 38 years old, on July 3rd, Idaho became the 43rd state in the United States. On July 10th, Wyoming became the 44th state.

1894 - In the year of Kate Hamilton's passing, on March 12th, for the first time, Coca-Cola was sold in individual bottles as a drink for consumer consumption. Previously, it was sold as a syrup for upset stomachs - over the counter.
