Did you know?
In 1914, in the year that La Verne Collins was born, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother's Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers. Anna Jarvis had championed a Mother's Day for years but Congress had joked a few years earlier that then they would have to proclaim a "Mother-in-law's Day" as well. The President who championed a woman's right to vote also created a day in their honor.

In 1938, when this person was 24 years old, on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."

Success Stories - Making Connections
"Thank you for helping me find my family & friends again so many years after I lost them. I get the chance to remember them all this time later." Highlights of just a few of the many successes of sharing memories within the AncientFaces Community. From reuniting Lost & Found or 'orphan' photos with their families, seeing faces of relatives for the first time, to the many connections made with family & friends, and the profound discoveries about our loved ones and ancestors. Special moments like these are why it's important we share.

Lest We Forget - The Children of the Holocaust
The Holocaust led by Adolf Hitler during World War 2 claimed the lives of millions. The Holocaust photo collection contains the images of approximately 3,000 children whose lives were taken from them. Many of these images are shared by community member Alyssa McIntosh who works tirelessly to make sure that we never forget the young victims. See just some of these young faces of those who lost their lives below...it's heartbreaking. We'll never know what talent was lost, what they would have become, and what they would have added to our lives.
