1939 - In the year that Lee Mcnair was born, in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. First released in December 1937, it was originally dubbed "Disney's Folly" but the premiere received a standing ovation from the audience. At the 11th Academy Awards in February 1939, Walt Disney won an Academy Honorary Award - a full-size Oscar statuette and seven miniature ones - for Snow White.

1945 - Lee was merely 6 years old when on May 8th, World War II in Europe ended when Germany surrendered. Hitler had committed suicide a week before.

1959 - When he was 20 years old, on August 8th, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. The US flag was changed to show 50 stars.

1967 - By the time he was 28 years old, on October 2nd, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first black US Supreme Court justice. Marshall was the great-grandson of a slave and graduated first in his class at Howard University Law School. His nomination to the Supreme Court was approved by the Senate, 69 to 11.

1987 - He was 48 years old when was the first time that a criminal in the United States - a serial rapist - was convicted through the use of DNA evidence.
